Final Moana live-action trailer teases bigger adventures and Maui’s comeback

Disney has finally unveiled the last trailer for Moana (2026), the third installment in the franchise, which offers the greatest level of detailing of the live-action rendition to date. The film’s epic ocean scenes, Polynesian mythology, heartfelt family relationships, and Maui’s larger-than-life personality are all emphasized in the clip, accompanied by impressive visual scale and sound. It is set to hit theatres on July 10, 2026.

The trailer shows a more faithful recreation of some of the most iconic moments from the original, alongside some additional action sequences and more immersive world building, in which Dwayne Johnson reprised his role as Maui and Catherine Laga’aia took over as Moana.

The new footage, which includes scenes of stunning scenery from the islands and action-filled sea battle sequences, promises to make the tale more monumental and cinematic.

The ocean looks more alive than ever

One of the greatest things about the latest trailer is that the Ocean’s importance in the story is still apparent. The sea is just like in the animated films, it is a character and provides guidance and protection for Moana on her journey.

The trailer also features breathtaking views of the islands, including its towering cliffs, lush forests, and expansive stretches of ocean. The live-action visuals lend Moana’s journey an even more epic feel, helping to lay even more solid ground for the expansive world.

Most importantly, these stunning scenes reinforce the main idea of the film: exploring outside the comfort zone and into the realm of the exciting and the mysterious.

Maui, monsters, and mythology

The final trailer is more focused on the mythology and fantasy aspects of the film, while the teaser trailer was more focused on introducing the world of Moana. It portrays Maui’s magical powers up close and personal, and Dwayne Johnson fully embraces the charms, humor and larger than life personality of the demigod.

It also features Moana and Maui strengthening their bond, the presence of supernatural beings, challenges, and adventures. Whether it’s a giant storm in the ocean or some exciting sailing sequences, the trailer indicates that Disney has made an attempt to scale the film up but has done so in a way that does not take away from its feeling of authenticity that audiences always admired.

Moana’s emotional journey remains the heart of the story

Despite being very entertaining to look at, the trailer remains grounded in the emotional core of Moana. It is about a young woman learning to trust herself, take responsibility, and respond to a call that only she can hear.

The trailer showcases a story of growth, self-discovery, and courage, while Catherine Laga’aia exudes confidence and warmth to the titular character. The stories of family, community, and cultural heritage are still at the core and remind viewers that her journey is one of defending what is most important.

Perhaps most important is that the trailer depicts the enthusiasm and honesty that underpinned the original movie that so captivated viewers. While Disney’s live-action reimagination has certainly drawn inspiration from the animated movie that centered on a Polynesian girl raised in a warrior society whose people were capable of surfing the waves, the film’s visuals, larger-scale action, and strong emotional focus promise to sing a new tune all while honoring the spirit of the original.
