YouTuber Jesse Ridgway claims that his wife Ashley Ridgway’s family is forcing her to leave him following the couple’s choice to terminate a pregnancy after a fetal Down syndrome diagnosis. The allegations surfaced on June 8 in a lengthy social media message, just days after Jesse and Ashley publicly revealed their deeply personal decision, which has prompted a major online reaction.
According to Jesse Ridgway, the controversy has strained relationships with some of Ashley’s family and friends during what he described as one of their most trying times.
Jesse Ridgway claims Ashley’s family is urging her to leave him
In a Facebook post on June 8, Jesse Ridgway claimed that Ashley’s family was not supportive after the procedure and accused him of influencing the choice.
The content producer claimed that Ashley received messages from relatives accusing him of abuse and manipulation. In a video uploaded on Facebook on Monday, Jesse, who is 33 years old, said:
“This video is from the evening after the procedure. My parents drop off an extremely thoughtful gift basket and show unconditional love and support … meanwhile, her family has been nowhere to be found.”
He added that Ashley’s friends and family members have been “joining in on the bandwagon hate PUBLICLY” and “kicking her while she’s down at her lowest point.” He captioned the video:
“She has received text messages from her family accusing me of abuse and that I’m brainwashing her … issuing ultimatums that she needs to LEAVE ME IMMEDIATELY. Audacious s*** that will have your head-spinning because of the delusion and lack of consideration.”
Jesse Ridgway went on to add:
“Downright disgusting gossip and s***-talking amongst important people in her life as if she’s not even blood. No backbone, just cowardice as they accuse me of making the decision and controlling/manipulating her over all the years of being together.”
Jesse went on to explain that both of them, especially Ashley, are going through a tough time and all the family could do was “turn their backs” on them:
“It’s times like these where you want to be able to depend on your family for love and support.”
He went on to add:
“We’ve put up with a lot of s***, but when it’s your own family exercising their bitterness and turning their backs when it matters the most, it really reveals everything about their character. Hell, I’ve even seen the worst of ‘friends’ publicly joining in on the crusade despite full-well knowing that behind closed doors, they would’ve made the same decision.”
Jesse Ridgway understood that speaking publicly about the problem could lead to additional conflict, but he felt compelled to protect his wife in the face of continued criticism:
“When you’re MIA, complicit and offensive during the hardest times of our life then you will never deserve to be there when it’s good. My wife is the sweetest and strongest woman I know, the last thing she deserves is to be treated this way.”
The YouTuber concluded his post by discussing the stigma associated with pregnancy termination as he expressed sympathy for women who chose to keep their abortions private, arguing that the fear of being judged by people close to them:
“My heart goes out to all of the women who have had to keep their abortions private for fear of judgment from friends/family, it’s the last thing you should be dealing with when you’re already confronting the hardest/worst of times.”
He went on to add:
“This is the sad reality. It’s why I will continue to speak out. It’s why sharing is better than hiding. The truth may be hard, but at least you’re living freely. Do NOT ever let the opinions of others define your life or else you will be living a life that’s not YOURS.”
Why did Jesse Ridgway and his wife Ashley terminate the pregnancy?
The controversy started when Jesse Ridgway announced on June 3, 2026, that he and Ashley had decided to abort a pregnancy after discovering that the fetus had tested positive for Trisomy 21, the chromosomal abnormality linked to Down syndrome. He announced:
“This week, my wife and I made the very difficult decision to terminate the pregnancy due to Trisomy 21. The choice was not made lightly.”
He continued:
“When I first confronted this news, I was shocked but optimistic,” Jesse wrote. “If they’re a little slow intellectually, then we’ll make it work. I signed on to be a parent, come what may…but I just didn’t fully understand what Down syndrome entailed.”
Jesse Ridgway described the decision as very challenging, saying that before coming to a decision, the pair consulted friends, family, doctors, and genetic counselors:
“This was WAY higher than I expected, I thought it would be lower given I hear so many say they kept or would keep the baby. I believe that’s because most terminations happen privately [and] it feels shameful. A lot of judgement being cast.”
Jesse concluded by writing:
“You matter a lot and we’re glad you’re here. I commend you and your families for having the strength and courage to push forward.”
He added:
“As for us, we made a difficult decision that we believe in the long-run will be beneficial for our family. Thankfully, we had a choice. It will take a little time to move on, but we are excited to try again in the future and hopefully have a better outcome.”
The situation continues to generate discussion online.
