Rapper Rod Wave was arrested Friday in suburban Atlanta on multiple weapons and drug charges, authorities confirmed.
Rod Wave slapped with felony charges
According to the Fulton County Sheriff’s and Atlanta Police Department’s reports obtained by TMZ, Green was taken into custody and charged with felony possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, possession of a Schedule V controlled substance, and reckless driving. He was booked into the Fulton County Jail following his arrest.
Police have not yet released the specifics surrounding the arrest, though multiple outlets have inquired about the circumstances that precipitated the apprehension.
What are Schedule II and V narcotics?
Under the Georgia Uniform Controlled Substances Act, Schedule II controlled substances include certain opiates such as morphine, hydrocodone, and oxycodone, as well as stimulants like methamphetamine and amphetamine. Schedule V substances typically contain smaller amounts of narcotics such as codeine or opium combined with other ingredients used for legitimate medical purposes.
Rod Wave has experienced enormous success in Atlanta
Rod Wave, 26, who was born Rodarius Green in St. Petersburg, Florida, is known for his chart-topping blend of rap and R&B in a style often described as “soul-trap.” He has earned 11 platinum singles, according to the Recording Industry Association of America, and four of his six albums have reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, including his most recent release, Last Lap (2024).
This is not Green’s first encounter with law enforcement. Earlier this year, he was arrested in Milton, Ga., about 45 miles north of Atlanta, on charges including aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit a felony, and obstruction of officers. At that time, his attorneys maintained he was the victim of a robbery and denied any wrongdoing. A 2022 domestic battery charge against the rapper was also later dismissed.
