While Gina Carano in recent years has been known for her role in the Star Wars Franchise, it should be noted that the Galaxy Far Far Away is not the only blockbuster franchise she has been part of. Her breakout role was in Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire, but she became further popular with her role in the Fast & Furious Franchise.
She was one of the many characters in the sixth Fast & Furious movie, but never appeared in any other movie after that. This has many fans wondering why Gina Carano is not in any other Fast & Furious movie. Hobbs and Dom team up in the movie to apprehend an ex-British SAS Major. The synopsis of the film reads as:
“In order to stop a criminal organization of lethally skilled drivers from stealing a top-secret weapon, Hobbs asks Dominic Toretto and his elite team to help outmatch them on the streets. As payment for the ultimate chase, they want full pardons for the whole team and a chance to make their families whole again.”
Is Gina Carano in Fast and Furious? Who did she play in those movies?
In the sixth movie, Gina Carano played the role of a veteran who aided Dwayne Johnson’s Luke Hobbs in investigating Owen Shaw’s mercenary organization. She proves her mettle in the team by apprehending one of Shaw’s team mates, Oakes, and manages to get him to confess that Shaw plans to attack London next. In London, Riley fights Dom’s wife, Letty Ortiz, who is revealed to be a part of Shaw’s group.
Letty manages to escape in that fight, but later, it is revealed that Letty is forced to be a part of Shaw’s group as the latter is holding Dom’s sister, Mia, hostage. As that happens, the movie pulls a rug under viewers by revealing that Riley is a double agent who has been on Shaw’s side all along. Thus, the third act of the movie is between Letty and Gina Carano’s Riley in a flying plane.
In this second fight, Letty again comes out on top as she shoots Riley with a harpoon gun, forcing the latter to plummet to her death. This ended Carano’s time in the franchise. Even though the Fast & Furious franchise has featured the return of dead characters, it seems that the writers have, as of now, chosen not to resurrect her character from the dead. But they may change their minds in the future for the eleventh movie or the TV series.
Carano herself described her time in the franchise like this in a 2024 Hollywood Reporter interview like this:
“It was absolutely ridiculous. It was really strange going from a set filled with these out-of-this-world genius actors. And then I go to Fast & Furious 6 and it’s a whole different vibe of muscles, baby oil and attitude problems. Everybody’s got a mental health coach, a cook, a trainer. Each person had like six people around them and I’m just sitting alone. ”
