The Boys Finale teaser proves leaks true with Butcher’s weapon, Homelander ‘s fate and more

Prime Video quietly released the trailer for the final episode of The Boys, and the internet is getting to see the first glimpse of what the last episode will show us. After five seasons of corporate superheroes, government corruption, and Billy Butcher slowly losing whatever was left of his soul, the show is finally cashing in every chip it has left. The trailer runs less than one minute but packs in enough emotional gut punches to leave you staring at the ceiling.

The trailer opens with Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher, looking absolutely wrecked. The show has already teased that his character will have some big moments, most of all, he could be the one to bring Homelander down finally. We also see him with a crowbar, matching what the leaks always said would happen between him and Homelander.

Then we get to see Homelander is standing on Oh-Father’s doorstep which kind of makes us worried about the latter. It also proves the leak true because we know what happens when this guy turns up at someone’s doorstep – it never really goes well! Daveed Diggs plays Oh-Father, a Superman-style revival preacher who became one of Homelander’s closest allies this season.

Then, of course, there’s a lot of action, which is the core of this show. We also see Kimiko crying, with a single teardrop on her face. Her arc is also at the centre for the finale as the writers always planned for Frenchie’s death to happen before the finale, and the trauma of losing him is written all over Kimiko in that frame. She has been through everything this show could throw at her.

The question of Ryan is also shown in the teaser. We see him standing face to face with Homelander, which means the father-son duo will have some unfinished business to attend to.

Cameron Crovetti’s Ryan has spent the entire series caught between the man who raised him in kindness and the man who gave him his powers, and the penultimate episode made it clear that Ryan realizes neither Butcher nor Homelander actually has his best interests at heart.

And then the final shot. Butcher drops a line: “Superheroes are done.” Which could essentially describe what the season will be.

From everything we can see in the teaser, Butcher is at the centre of everything in the finale, especially Homelander’s doom. The show has always been about what is underneath the cape and Butcher’s closing line is a statement of exhaustion from someone who has looked at the whole corrupt machine and has decided that the only correct answer is to tear it down completely.

Whether that makes him a hero or the final villain, is still to be known. But all in all we can be sure that Blood and Bone will live up to it’s name, and it will be interesting to see the doom of who’s at the receiving end of Butcher’s crowbar.
