Dutton Ranch just made the Yellowstone universe even bigger, and as new faces join the old ones with the premiere episode, it’s time to have a look at where these stars are from. Beth and Rip are in Texas now, they already have new enemies and there’s teenage love in the air too.
Here’s a look at every major cast member who showed up in that second episode and exactly what they’re bringing to the table.
Kelly Reilly leads Dutton Ranch as Beth Dutton
Beth Dutton arrived in Rio Paloma exactly the way you’d expect: suspicious of everyone, sharper than anyone, and somehow more interesting than every other person in the room. In Dutton Ranch’s Earn Another Day, she’s navigating a brutal introduction to South Texas, where the local cattle market is essentially owned by the rival Jackson family. Blocked from using the local slaughterhouses, Beth tracks down a new ally in Everett McKinney, gets pointed toward an independent meat processing facility near San Antonio, and starts building a workaround from nothing.
Kelly Reilly started her career landing a small part opposite Helen Mirren in the early 1990s on Prime Suspect. Stage work followed, and her run in After Miss Julie at the Donmar Warehouse earned her a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for Best Actress in 2003 and film roles came next: she played Caroline Bingley in the 2005 Pride and Prejudice, then appeared as Mary Morstan in Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes alongside Robert Downey Jr. in 2009, reprising the role in the 2011 sequel. She worked with Denzel Washington in Flight, joined Matthew McConaughey in True Detective, and then came Yellowstone in 2018.
Cole Hauser as Rip Wheeler
Rip Wheeler leads Dutton Ranch with Beth and in episode two, he’s trying to build a ranch operation from scratch in a part of Texas where his last name means nothing and the locals already have allegiances. A flashback sequence set eight days after the Montana fire shows him getting a lead on Rio Paloma, convincing Beth to make the leap, and committing to the new life. By the end of the episode, he’s dealing with a dead body that isn’t his problem but has become his problem anyway.
Cole Hauser grew up inside the entertainment industry as the son of Wings Hauser, a prolific character actor and filmmaker. His screen debut came in Richard Linklater’s Dazed and Confused and he followed that with parts in John Singleton’s Higher Learning and Gus Van Sant’s Good Will Hunting. He then starred in Pitch Black, 2 Fast 2 Furious, Olympus Has Fallen. He appeared alongside Bruce Willis four separate times over the course of his career and then Taylor Sheridan came calling. Hauser is also a producer on Dutton Ranch.
Ed Harris as Everett McKinney
Everett McKinney might be the most interesting new addition to the entire Yellowstone universe. He’s a Navy veteran turned small-town veterinarian with roots in Rio Paloma that run generations deep. In Earn Another Day, he becomes Beth’s most valuable asset after she discovers Beulah Jackson has locked down every major slaughterhouse in the region. Everett connects her to an independent operation near San Antonio, saving the Dutton Ranch’s first cattle run. Later in the episode, he and Beth share drinks at a local bar while he plays country music on stage.
Harris has worked on Pollock, The Hours, A Beautiful Mind, Appaloosa, The Right Stuff, and Top Gun: Maverick.
Annette Bening as Beulah Jackson
Beulah Jackson runs the 10-Petals Ranch in Dutton Ranch, the biggest and most powerful operation in the Rio Paloma region, and she’s spent years trying to acquire the exact plot of land Beth and Rip just purchased from under her.
Five-time Academy Award nominee Annette Bening made her breakthrough in The Grifters, Bugsy, opposite her husband Warren Beatty, American Beauty, Being Julia, The Kids Are All Right. She appeared in The American President, joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain Marvel, and starred opposite Ed Harris in the 2013 romantic drama The Face of Love.
Jai Courtney as Rob-Will
Rob-Will is Beulah’s son, which means he stands to inherit control of one of the most powerful ranching operations in South Texas and Dutton Ranch episode one established this brutally: tasked with questioning a ranch hand named Wes, Rob-Will killed him instead. In the second episode, the cover-up gets messier as he buries the body.
Courtney has previously worked on Spartacus: Blood and Sand, A Good Day to Die Hard, Divergent, Suicide Squad among others.
Finn Little as Carter
The Duttons’ son Carter is seventeen now and in episode two, a flashback places him at the Western Inn right after the Montana fire, and in the present timeline, he’s already found trouble: a fight at a rodeo, a brief arrest, and a complicated encounter with Oreana Jackson that has romantic undertones despite her being the granddaughter of Beth and Rip’s primary rival.
Natalie Alyn Lind as Oreana
Oreana is Beulah’s granddaughter and Rob-Will’s daughter and in episode two, she bails Carter out of jail after he defended her at the rodeo.
Natalie Alyn Lind made her own debut on One Tree Hill as a child and later worked on Gotham, The Gifted, Big Sky, Pet Sematary: Bloodlines.
Juan Pablo Raba as Joaquin
Joaquin is the person Beulah calls when things need to quietly go away and in episode two, he functions as the operational backbone of the 10-Petals Ranch.
Juan Pablo Raba is known for his recurring role as Joey Gutierrez on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and later appeared as Gustavo in Narcos.
