While viewers are already loving the new Dutton Ranch series, many are left wondering why the actor playing the role of Everett McKinney looks so familiar. The character is played by Ed Harris, the famous American actor and filmmaker who has been active in the industry for almost four decades.
In the Paramount+ Original series Dutton Ranch, he plays Everett McKinney, a veterinarian who appears in the first two episodes. The Yellowstone spin-off series is created by Chad Feehan and features Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, Finn Little, Juan Pablo Raba, Jai Courtney, J.R. Villarreal, Marc Menchaca, Ed Harris, Annette Bening, Morgan Wade, Sterlin English, and Natalie Alyn Lind.
Ed Harris plays Everett McKinney in Dutton Ranch

In the new series Dutton Ranch, Ed Harris takes on a role different from his usual characters as he plays veterinarian Everett McKinney. In episode 1, he is seen entering the Split Heart Bar, calming Hoyt, who was behaving inappropriately with Carol, the bartender. He orders iced tea, and when Hoyt tries to provoke him, he calmly tells him that he is giving him a chance to walk away with his pride intact.
Beth Dutton, who watches the whole thing, is impressed by him and says it’s good to see that chivalry is not dead after Hoyt leaves. The two then have a brief conversation about Beth picking her own battles, while McKinney makes it clear that he only steps into this kind of role when it comes to bad people.
Later, Beth checks on the injured horse, and McKinney arrives to treat it, assuring her that he will take care of the horse. Beth comes to know that he’s a vet and asks him to take care of the horse even if there are fewer chances of the horse’s survival.
Viewers also come to know the reason behind his name, with him revealing that he borrowed “Everett” from his father. In their next meeting, Beth asks Everett McKinney about the slaughterhouse, and the two go there together. Later, Beth introduces Everett to her husband, Rip Wheeler, and the two talk about their love lives after Beth leaves them together. Toward the end of Episode 2, McKinney sings a song while Beth and Rip dance to it.
His character brings a calm and fun energy to the series, with his humorous dialogues. Everett also quickly forms a good bond with Beth Dutton and shows care for the injured horse.
