The Netflix crime thriller wraps its first season with a gut wrenching standoff that leaves Isaiah empty handed and Coltrane one step ahead.
Netflix’s new crime thriller Nemesis dropped all eight episodes of its first season this week, and the finale delivers one of the most tension filled endings of the year. The series, created by Courtney A. Kemp and Tani Marole, centers on the relentless pursuit between LAPD Detective Isaiah Stiles, played by Matthew Law, and master criminal Coltrane Wilder, played by Y’lan Noel. By the time the credits roll on the final episode, neither man walks away unscathed but only one of them walks away free.
How the finale sets the stage
The season builds to a breaking point in Episode 6, when a violent shootout between Coltrane’s crew and law enforcement leaves casualties on both sides. Isaiah’s father, Amos Nightmare Stiles, is killed by Coltrane in Isaiah’s own guest house and the killing is witnessed by Noah, Isaiah’s son, who was hiding in the closet. Coltrane then frames Isaiah for his father’s murder, getting Isaiah suspended from the force and placed under house arrest just as he’s closing in on his target.
That framing gives Coltrane the window he needs to plan his escape with his wife, Ebony. But Episode 8 makes clear that window is closing fast.
What happens to Ebony
As the finale opens, Ebony has been taken in by Detective Cruz, who is pressing her for information on Noah’s location and Coltrane’s whereabouts. She refuses to cooperate and uses her one phone call to quietly get word to Coltrane through a coded message via Eden’s Bliss Spa.
Meanwhile, Isaiah still under house arrest pieces together that Noah didn’t get kidnapped but instead ran away deliberately, taking off without his phone in hopes of tracking down Coltrane himself to avenge his grandfather’s death. With an all points bulletin now out on Coltrane after Detective Harper is caught on camera handing him Isaiah’s service weapon at a strip club, law enforcement finally has legal ground to pursue him directly.
Coltrane’s escape plan unravels quickly. He is shot by Harper during an ambush but manages to overpower her in a brutal physical confrontation. Moments later, he discovers that Alvarez cartel members hired by Isaiah in a desperate, morally compromising move have taken Ebony hostage to use as bait.
The Candace revelation
One of the finale’s more layered turns involves Isaiah’s wife, Candace. She breaks into Ebony’s home searching for a satellite phone and instead stumbles onto evidence that Ebony knows someone operating under the alias Brenda Johnson who is actually Charlie, Ebony’s sister, the same woman who earlier approached Candace under that false identity.
Coltrane ultimately storms the warehouse where Alvarez’s men are holding what he believes to be Ebony, only to find Candace instead mistakenly grabbed in Ebony’s place. It’s there that Candace learns the truth: Isaiah called in the cartel himself. The moment forces her to reckon with who her husband has become, and later in the episode, a deeply shaken Candace ends up at Detective Malik’s house, where the two become intimate.
Ebony, meanwhile, is eventually released by the LAPD who plan to use her as bait themselves but is injured in a fall. She ends up sedated in a hospital, which is exactly where Coltrane heads next.
The final standoff
The hospital sequence is where the finale earns its most gripping stretch. Coltrane outsmarts a floor full of undercover officers by drawing their attention to himself on the security cameras while a team of women disguised as nurses quietly move Ebony out of her room and into an ambulance where Charlie is waiting. Coltrane then slips out, sparking a car chase through Los Angeles that pulls in the Alvarez cartel, the LAPD, and Noah all at once.
Isaiah pursues Coltrane on foot into an alleyway, where Noah has already cornered him at gunpoint. Before anything can be resolved, one of Alvarez’s men shoots Noah in the leg. Coltrane kneels to apply pressure to the wound while training his gun on Isaiah. The two men face each other in a standoff and Coltrane lays out the terms. If Isaiah drops his weapon and lets him go, he can save his son. If he doesn’t, Noah bleeds out in an alley.

What it means for a possible season 2
The finale leaves Isaiah stripped of his leverage, his marriage in crisis, and his nemesis free. Coltrane’s parting words land like a verdict not just on the chase, but on Isaiah’s entire approach. The season ends without resolution, which is fitting for a show built on the idea that obsession has a cost. Whether Nemesis returns for a second season remains to be seen, but the finale positions every major relationship Isaiah and Candace, Coltrane and Ebony, Ebony and Charlie for a dramatic reckoning.
