Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 27 Episode 21 will follow a kidnapping case that will fall apart due to a legal technicality. According to the upcoming episode’s logline, a
“procedural mistake made during the rescue of a kidnapped boy causes the case to collapse in court…”
leading to the judge releasing the suspect, Mr. Caine.
Benson and her squad will thus be forced to look for the right evidence to put the suspect in jail before he commits more crimes. The teaser for the finale gives us glimpses of Mr. Caine getting released because the judge stated the search to be illegal. As Corey Cott, who plays Detective Jake Griffin in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 27, told NBC Insider,
“The case itself is really intense.”
He added,
“So we know that there’s potentially more victims out there that are going to get hurt while we’re sitting there with our hands tied, going, ‘How do we get this guy?'”
Cott’s character will also take center stage in the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 27 finale, according to the latter half of the logline, which states,
“…as Griffin gets closer to the truth about Tynan, he finds himself in grave danger.”
Speaking more about the episode, Cott said,
“It’s a lot,”
He continued,
“There’s a lot going on in Griff’s little mind and the squad’s mind about how to move forward and how to solve all this. The audience will have to just watch [the finale] to see what happens. But it was so satisfying reading [the script] when we first got it, and it was even more satisfying shooting it.”
As NBC Insider reported, the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 27 finale will also follow a personal scandal involving Griffin’s late father, Jimmy, who was Tynan’s former partner. Griffin will get closer to the truth regarding an off-duty shooting involving his father from over twenty years ago, which will put him in danger, as the logline states.
The tension between Captain Olivia Benson and Chief Kathryn Tynan will also reach a finality. Tynan suspended Benson following a courtroom slip, and Benson has been doing her best to keep her cool. Now, according to NBC Insider, Benson has discovered that Tynan helped cover up something incriminating, which she will use as leverage.
The Law & Order: Special Victims Unit Season 27 finale will be released on May 14, 2026, at 9 PM ET and 8 PM CT on NBC and will be available for streaming the next day on Peacock.
