On May 13, American singer Clarence Carter passed away. The Strokin’ singer died at the age of 90. Clarence was reportedly diagnosed with Stage 4 prostate cancer. Besides, the American musician was also struggling with pneumonia and sepsis. The ‘Slip Away’ singer was blind from birth.
For those unaware, Clarence Carter tied the knot to Candi Staton in 1970. The couple later separated in 1973. Carter and Staton have one child together, named Clarence Carter Jr. After their separation, Candi Staton married her then-manager, Jimmy James.

The recording studio gave tribute to the blind soul star via a Facebook post. The
“We are deeply saddened to report the passing of our dear friend Clarence Carter.”
FAME further wrote about the musician’s contributions to the company. They said:
“Clarence recorded all of his greatest hits at FAME Studios alongside Rick Hall, and recorded as part of the FAME family for more than four decades. He was far more than an artist to us.”
The studio also honored the legacy of the late singer and sent prayers to his family and friends.
“Clarence Carter leaves behind a legacy of timeless music, unforgettable performances, and a friendship we will always cherish. We extend our love and prayers to his family, friends, and fans around the world.”
Clarence George Carter was born on January 14, 1936, in Montgomery, Alabama. Carter was an R&B singer, record producer, and songwriter. His most successful songs include Slip Away, Back Door Santa, Patches, and Strokin‘. Initially, he kicked off his music career with Calvin Scott. Scott was Carter’s fellow blind partner.
