Firehouse 51 responds to a high-risk emergency

Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 21 titled ‘Thank You‘ aired on NBC on May 13. The latest entry marked the final episode of Season 14 of the firefighter procedural. However, worry not, as Chicago Fire has been renewed for another season on NBC.

Chicago Fire ‘Thank You’ began with Chief Pascal, Truck 81 and Squad 3 firefighters on a rescue mission in a blazing Inferno. The team was tasked with rescuing people from a burning building in a high-stakes emergency. The episode then flashed back to three days prior as firefighters geared up for important decisions in their lives.

While Severide was contemplating his career in the CFD after the OFI job offer, Herrmann decided to renew his vows with Cindy and Novak decided to take her relationship with Vasquez to the next level.

However, amid these personal decisions, the team was summoned to the life-changing fire that left their fates in the balance.

Here is the complete recap of the Chicago Fire Season 14 finale.

What happened at Herrmann and Cindy’s vow renewal in the Chicago Fire Season 14 finale?

Chicago Fire ‘Thank You’ began with Herrmann and Cindy renewing their vows in a last-minute celebration at Molly’s. Amid the chaos of rebuilding their home, Herrmann felt gratitude for his wife and he wanted to do something for her. The ceremony allowed Firehouse 51 to connect, even Chief Pascal, who was in town to convince Severide to stay at Firehouse 51. Herrmann and Cindy’s vow renewal ceremony also gave Novak a chance to come clean about her feelings to Vasquez. She subtly hinted that she would be open to exploring their relationship seriously but Vasquez is reconsidering his firefighting career. The Chicago Fire Season 14 finale revealed that Vasquez’s father put in a good word for him and he can consider a career as a cop, leaving his fate uncertain for the upcoming season.

Elsewhere, Mouch revealed to Herrmann that he had to replace their book with a romance (called Sheets on Fire) to sell to his publisher. Herrmann was supportive and promised to publish Brothers in Arms himself one day.

Severide contemplated his future in the Chicago Fire Season 14 finale

Chicago Fire ‘Thank You’ saw Severide contemplating his future in the CFD. To his surprise, Chief Pascal was in town to convince him to stay in Firehouse 51. While Severide suggested that his calling is investigating fire, Pascal showed support and said that he left him in charge of Firehouse 51 for a reason.

Severide was surprised to see Isaiah back in town when he reached home. While Isaiah revealed that he was in town with Lydia in the Chicago Fire Season 14 finale, Kidd was worried that he was hiding something. Turns out, Lydia was back in Cleveland and unaware of Isaiah’s whereabouts. When the couple confronted Isaiah, he revealed that his mother had a major setback in her physical therapy and sent him to stay with Lydia. However, Isaiah would rather stay with his foster parents, so he took a bus to the Windy City.

This was a huge turning point in the Chicago Fire Season 14 finale as Severide weighed his career options with Isaiah, who advised him that a career in the OFI would be less dangerous. Severide agreed, considering that Isaiah could return to the couple once again.

Severide arrived at the Firehouse and revealed that he had finally made his decision. However, just then, the call for the life-threatening emergency came and Severide was unable to announce his decision to the squad (and to ChiHards).

Another life-changing personal milestone came for Cruz, who learned that he was having twins with Chloe in Chicago Fire ‘Thank You.’

In the final moments of the Chicago Fire Season 14 finale, we were just 30 minutes away from the fire that left the squad’s fate in the balance. Before going into the blazing Inferno, Herrmann confessed to Mouch that he had been contemplating retiring from the CFD.

Since it was a high-risk emergency, Chief Pascal was assisting the team on the call. The smoke inside the building was blinding and the roof was almost about to collapse, forcing the team to divide and conquer. While Severide, Cruz, Mouch, Capp and Tony went inside the building for evacuation protocol, Kidd, Vasquez, Ballard and Herrman were on the roof, working to secure it with a ladder. However, things took a turn when Herrmann heard a loud explosion that engulfed the team on the roof and in the building in flames. As Chicago Fire Season 14 came to a close, Pascal and the paramedics heard Severide screaming ‘Mayday’ over the radio, leaving many of the members’ fates in danger.
