Episode 21 or the finale of Chicago PD Season 13 brings back Detective Imani in focus as she reunites with Shari after years of searching. However, the reunion quickly became heartbreaking because Shari no longer remembered her old life or even accepted her original identity.

She was abducted by Russ Kirky in childhood, who made her believe that he’s the only person Shari can rely on. This means that Shari was being manipulated from the day she was taken away, and now she cannot easily trust anyone including Imani.

Shari rejected the DNA evidence proving she and Imani were sisters and even refused to be called Shari anymore. The finale of Chicago PD Season 13 also revealed that Shari had been living under multiple fake identities while constantly moving around and this was her normal life.

What disturbed Imani the most was hearing Shari defend Kirby and describe their relationship as love. The man first raised Shari as his daughter and then married her saying it was love.

Not only that, but Kirby also forced Shari to work at a strip club and exploited her financially and sexually. Even so, Shari still viewed him as her protector. During one conversation, she mentioned a man named Jojo who lived near the river, giving intelligence their first possible lead on Kirby’s location.

Episode 21 of Chicago PD Season 13 continues as the team raids Jojo’s home and the investigation stalls almost immediately. Jojo turned out to be a drug dealer and revealed that he hasn’t seen Kirby for a long time after a conflict between them.

This made Hank Voight question whether Shari had intentionally misled them to protect her captor. However, Imani defended her sister saying years of manipulation had left Shari confused rather than deceitful.

The team continued the investigation and they found out more about Kirby’s crimes. He regularly extorted clients by using the women working for him, including Shari. He would promise drugs or favors through the girls and later blackmail the men involved by threatening police exposure.

And then, Voight eventually developed a darker theory connected to Laura Kerr, the woman who was found dead in the previous episode of Chicago PD and also happens to be Kirby’s victim. Laura had apparently tried helping Shari escape from Kirby’s control, and the two women had secretly started stealing money from clients in hopes of running away together.

Because of this, Voight suspected Shari may have helped Kirby kill Laura. Without telling Imani his suspicions, he quietly ordered forensic testing to see if Shari’s DNA appeared on the victim.

Later in episode 21 of Chicago PD, Imani tries to rebuild trust with her sister by showing her childhood belongings, old photographs and evidence of how their parents spent years searching across different cities for her. Their parents eventually died without giving hope and leaving Imani determined to find Shari at any cost.

Shari then claimed she knew where Kirby would hide but insisted Imani come alone so the police would not kill him. Trusting her sister, Imani agreed only to walk directly into a setup. When they reached the place Kirby was present, the man hit Imani and knocked her unconscious.

He asked Shari to take away Imani’s gun, and this way it was clear that Shari never really believed that Imani was her real sister and that Kirby was the one who destroyed her life. To prove that loyalty, Kirby pressured her into killing her own sister much like she had allegedly helped him kill Laura earlier.

Imani couldn’t believe Shari would do this, but she continued to fight back until her team arrived. Kirby then attempted to escape with Shari but Voight stopped him by shooting and killing him in front of her.

And at the end of Chicago PD Season 13, Shari feels broken and confused and tries to commit suicide. Although she survived after Imani rushed her to the hospital, there’s a possibility that Shari could be charged for Laura’s murder.
