Last fall, General Hospital began hinting about a budding romance between teens Danny Morgan and Charlotte Cassadine. Things moved along to more than just hints when Danny and Charlotte ended up at the Q gate house during the blizzard in January, sharing their first kiss. And since then? Well, not much, as Asher Antonyzyn told his co-stars.
Kissing cousins don’t hit the General Hospital mark
On the latest episode of That’s Awesome, the podcast hosted by GH stars Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) and Bradford Anderson (Damian Spinelli), Antonyzyn breaks down the Danny and Charlotte (Bluesy Burke) short-lived romance and why the show seems to have put the kibosh on it.
“Danny talked to his grandma and his dad about if they were related, and they said distant cousins, like great-grandfathers, great-great-grandfathers,” Antonyzyn explained. “But at the end of the day, still related a little bit. So who knows where that goes, if that continues on.”
Antonyzyn added that GH might want to turn Danny and Charlotte into another male-female dynamic friendship duo that’s kept fans intrigued for decades.
“They’ve kind of realized that it’s kind of like a Jason and Carly relationship where they have so much love for each other that they don’t feel like it’s right to go into something like that again,” Antonyzyn said.
The Danny and Charlotte cousin connection
From the start, fans had called out Danny and Charlotte’s cousin relationship, which turned the audience off from the potential relationship. Danny and Charlotte are both Cassadines, as Alexis detailed. Danny’s grandmother, Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn), is first cousin of Charlotte’s father, Valentin (James Patrick Stuart). Alexis’ father, Mikkos, was a brother of Valentin’s father, Victor.
So, while it’s kind of a distant relationship, Danny and Charlotte are indeed cousins, which is why fans could acknowledge the chemistry between Antonyzyn and Burke, but knew it couldn’t go anywhere.
However, that doesn’t mean that Danny and Charlotte won’t be spending more close time together trying to help their two dads. Danny is determined to get his father out of international prison and Charlotte is determined to make sure her father never goes back to international prison, so they share common goals.
According to Antonyzyn, the dream cousin team will come together to get the job done, telling Burton and Anderson, “We do team up to try to get Jason back.”
Will they succeed or will this be a drop that needs a little grown-up super spy help? Time will tell…
