General Hospital viewers probably didn’t expect Nina to jab Jack with the needle meant for Drew, sending him to the floor. He survived, barely, but now Nina is juggling guilt, panic, Drew’s paralysis cover-up, and the possibility that her entire life is about to detonate in spectacular Port Charles fashion. Cynthia Watros recently opened up about the chaos behind those scenes and why Nina is nowhere near emotionally prepared for what comes next.
General Hospital chaos pushed Nina completely over the edge
Watros spoke to Soap Opera Digest about filming the explosive scenes involving Nina, Jack (Chris McKenna), and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart). “Those were really fun scenes to shoot,” she explained, admitting she originally wondered how Nina accidentally stabbing Jack with a paralytic would even work onscreen. She praised the fight coordinator and said the scenes felt “so frenetic” but ultimately came together naturally once filming began.
The real disaster started after Jack hit the floor. Nina rushed after him to the hospital and completely forgot Drew (Cameron Mathison) missed his scheduled injection back at the house. Watros laughed about the situation while also pointing out how dangerous it is becoming for Nina and Willow (Katelyn MacMullen). “They both know it would be very bad for them if he starts moving again,” she said.
Watros also gave Mathison a huge amount of credit for playing Drew’s locked-in state. She admitted she had no idea how he managed to communicate so much emotion while barely moving. According to her, even the scripts describe things like Drew being “afraid with his eyeballs,” which honestly sounds like the kind of sentence only soap operas could write with complete sincerity.
Nina’s panic may only be getting started
The actress made it clear that Nina is terrified about what happens next. Between helping Willow keep Drew paralyzed and accidentally injecting Jack, Nina suddenly has enough possible criminal charges hanging over her head to require their own filing cabinet. Watros explained that Nina’s first instinct is still protecting Willow, but right behind that comes the horrifying realization that she may have completely destroyed her own life, too.
At the same time, Watros stressed that Nina’s guilt over Jack is genuine. She explained that Nina is not somebody who casually puts people in hospital beds and moves on with her afternoon. “She hurt this man,” Watros said bluntly, adding, “This man is in a hospital bed because of her! It is not in Nina’s nature to put someone in the hospital because of something she did, so there’s a lot going on in her head.”
For now, Watros is mostly hoping Nina survives the emotional hurricane she created. After describing the character’s stress level as “very high,” she joked that Nina probably needs a hot bath and a glass of wine after a day like this. Honestly, after accidentally paralyzing an international agent while forgetting about a second paralyzed man sitting alone in the house, that may actually qualify as medical malpractice.
