American Idol Season 24 concluded this week as this year’s winner has been declared: Hannah Harper. The singer celebrated her American Idol win by thanking her fans and supporters on Facebook. Her post thanking everyone read:
“What a wild, beautiful journey this has been. And somehow we’re just getting started. Thank you to every single person who believed in me, prayed over me, voted, and helped carry this dream farther than I ever could’ve imagined. Y’all changed my life. I’m beyond thankful for the doors the Lord has opened and for the opportunity to walk this path.”
After informing her fans that her tour dates will be announced soon, she ended her post like this:
“For I know the plans I have for you” — this is the Lord’s declaration — “plans for your well-being, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” — Jeremiah 29:11 (CSB) #idol”
What performances made Hannah Harper the American Idol winner 2026?
The 26-year-old Harper impressed the viewers, live audiences and the judges with a soul-stirring performance of Alicia Keys’ “No One”. Following that, made a lasting impression her original song, which is titled, “Married Into This Town”. “Married Into This Town” visibly moved everyone, including judge Carrie Underwood, which may have one of the contributing factors in her American Idol win.
But what clenched her win was supposedly another original song of hers, “String Cheese”, which was inspired by her personal experiences as a stay-at-home mother. The lyrics of this song goes like this:
“Some days I wanna cry, run away and hide/ But I’d worry about their еvery need/ And when I’m ovеrwhelmеd and touched out Thеy come climbin’ up on the couch/ Sayin’, “Mama, can you open my string cheese?”/ And I smile because I know meetin’ their needs fills my soul/ And being their mama is who I’m meant to be.”
She auditioned for American Idol with this song and it seems that Harper performed it again in the finale, resulting in her winning the finale. It seems that “String Cheese” has had a pretty moving backstory which is why it may have had an impact on everyone. Harper described the origin of the song like this:
“I was sitting on my couch wallowing, and you have boys, you know. Everybody wants to touch you, and I didn’t want to be touched. And my youngest son, I was just having a pity party, praying that the Lord would calm my spirit, and my son kept coming up to me. He said, ‘Mom, open this. Open my cheese.’ I’m like, ‘Leave me alone with the doggone cheese.’”
Then, she continued:
“And I finally opened his cheese, and when I did I realized God had put me in that place, and that where I was in my house was the biggest ministry that I could ever have in being a mom. So, I gathered myself, and I got up off the couch, and I quit throwing a pity party, and I realized that was exactly what I wanted. And I kind of kicked the postpartum depression in the b**t, and I said, ‘I ain’t doing it.”
