LITE stock rockets 16% as Lumentum crushes AI targets

The optical networking company crushed Q3 estimates and guided Q4 even higher, sending shares up 16%

Lumentum Holdings had exactly the kind of quarter that sends a stock into overdrive — and on Monday, the market responded accordingly.

Shares of the optical networking company, which trades on Nasdaq under the ticker LITE, jumped more than 16% on May 11, 2026, after the company delivered a fiscal third-quarter report that beat Wall Street estimates on nearly every line and followed it up with guidance that pushed even further above expectations. For investors tracking the AI infrastructure build-out, Lumentum has become one of the more closely watched names in the space. Here are four reasons the stock made such a dramatic move.

1. Revenue nearly doubled year over year

Lumentum posted fiscal Q3 2026 revenue of $808.4 million, a 90% increase compared to the same period a year earlier and a 21.5% jump from the prior quarter. That kind of growth across both measures in the same report is unusual, and it signals that demand for the company’s products is not simply recovering — it is accelerating. The result came in well ahead of what analysts had modeled.

2. Earnings and margins exceeded expectations

Non-GAAP earnings per share came in at $2.37, ahead of consensus estimates, while operating margin expanded to 32.2%. That margin result stands out. Expansion of that scale generally reflects genuine pricing power rather than volume alone, meaning Lumentum is not just selling more — it is capturing more value on each sale. For investors, that distinction matters considerably when evaluating whether strong growth can hold.

3. AI demand has the company effectively sold out

The primary force behind Lumentum’s results is demand from AI data centers and the hyperscalers building out infrastructure at a rapid pace. Management noted that the company is under-shipping demand by approximately 30%, even after a 40% capacity expansion. Long-term supply agreements covering its key laser capacity extend through 2027, providing both revenue visibility and pricing leverage that most hardware companies in the space do not currently have.

Looking ahead, management guided Q4 revenue to a range of $960 million to $1.01 billion — roughly 22% sequential growth — with operating margin expected to reach 35% to 36% and earnings per share projected at $2.85 to $3.05, all above Wall Street’s prior estimates.

4. Analysts are raising targets and index inclusion adds a fresh bid

The earnings report prompted a broad wave of price target increases. Rosenblatt raised its target to $1,300, Jefferies moved to $1,200, Raymond James lifted its target to $1,014 and Morgan Stanley raised its target to $900, though it noted the stock may need a period of consolidation after its extended run. Mizuho, CFRA, B. Riley, Barclays, JPMorgan and Stifel also moved their targets higher, many of them into four-digit territory.

Adding to that backdrop, Lumentum is scheduled to join the Nasdaq-100 on May 18, 2026, replacing CoStar Group. Index inclusion brings a mechanical bid from funds required to hold every component of the index — a structural tailwind arriving at an already favorable moment for the stock.

A compelling story with a stretched valuation

Lumentum’s business fundamentals are hard to dispute. Record revenue, widening margins, sold-out capacity and long-term AI-linked contracts give the company a credible and clearly defined growth narrative. With $2.62 billion in cash on hand, it also has the resources to keep expanding.

The counterpoint is valuation. A price-to-earnings ratio near 265 and price-to-sales around 33 price in a great deal of future success, leaving limited margin for error. For investors, the question is less whether Lumentum is performing well — it clearly is — and more whether that performance is already fully reflected in the share price.
