No, the human bone found near Nancy Guthrie’s home was not linked to the crime. Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy Guthrie went missing in the early hours of February 1, 2025. She was last seen a day ago when her family dropped her at her house in Catalina Foothills community of Tucson, Arizona.
A spokesperson for the Tucson Police Department in a statement obtained by People revealed that a human bone was found on May 7 at North Craycroft Road and East River Road, around seven miles from Nancy’s house. However, the bone is not related to the case and the spokesperson described the find as a “prehistoric anthropological investgation” and confirmed that it was not criminal in nature.
Police also mentioned that the University of Arizona Department of Anthropology and the Pima County Officer of the Medical Examiner assisted.
Recent developments in the Nancy Guthrie case
Since the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie in February, 2026, police officials have recovered doorstep camera footage that revealed videos of a masked man. Evidence in the case also involves unindentified DNA. The FBI had earlier described the suspect as 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-10 tall with an average build. While the FBI and local police department suspected kidnapping, Savannah Guthrie’s new interview with Hoda Kotb, reveals more details.
In an interview with Hoda Kotb on Today, Savannah Guthrie admitted that her initial conclusion was that her mother had “some kind of medical episode in the night” and walked away from the house,
“That didn’t make sense. We thought that maybe (the paremedics) came with a stretcher and took her out the back, but her phone was there, and her purse was there. It just didn’t make ny sense.”
In February, following Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance, Savannah and her siblings shared a video on Instagram where they pleaded with the alleged kidnapper to return her. In the videos, the siblings also revealed that their mother has high blood pressure, and cardian issues that require a pacemaker.
In the same interview with Hoda Kotb, Savannah also explained that her sister, Annie Guthrie and brother-in-law Tommaso Cioni did not share the same concerns as her, and said that their mother “can’t wonder off.”
On May 6, FBI director, Kash Patel in a podcast interview with Sean Hannity criticized the Pima County Sheriff Department’s handling of the case and mentioned that the FBI was kept out of the case for the first four days.
