Days of our Lives’ Amy Choi got the most devastating news a mother could receive on the May 5, 2026 episode. Her daughter had jumped into the Salem River and was most likely dead. Amy knew she had to blame someone for what happened, so she went to a likely source.

Now, the audience knows that Sophia’s (Rachel Boyd) suicide note was a fake; she did not actually plan to kill herself. Sophia just wanted to hightail it out of Salem and start a new life, but also get back at Holly (Ashley Puzemis) on the way out.
From the looks of the note, Amy (Shi Ne Nielson) is right to want to blame Holly. She was also right that Sophia was mentally ill. She might not have intended to kill herself, but her actions were not of a mentally healthy person. Sophia had also not been taking her meds, which made her condition even worse.
Amy also had a point that ganging up on someone who had just been in a mental hospital isn’t cool at all. In fact, it’s downright cruel and thoughtless. Yes, Sophia did some terrible things and needed to be brought down a peg or two, but public bullying is never the answer. And neither is murder, but it’s a pretty safe bet that Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) suffers from much more severe mental illness than Sophia ever did.
Still, Amy was also wrong because she refuses to look in the mirror at all.
The hardest thing for a mother to take
No mother ever wants to look inward to see where they went so wrong as a parent that their child ended up with mental health problems. While Amy was certainly a helicopter mom, she did mean well. However, in the end, all she had to do was be supportive of her daughter when she wanted to end her pregnancy.
Amy forced her teenage daughter to carry a child to term against her wishes and insisted on making all the decisions, including who would adopt the baby. Yes, Sophis took things to the extreme, but she was a pregnant teenager who felt she had nowhere to turn. If her mother had been understanding rather than regimented, perhaps this all would have had a different outcome. But, if it did, this wouldn’t be a soap, would it?
