The Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Royal Rift is one of the most significant internal conflicts within the monarchy in recent times. The Prince Harry and Meghan Royal Rift occurred when the couple retired as Senior Royals because Meghan faced severe toxic, racist, and intrusive behavior from the British press, and also because the couple wanted to raise their children away from the public eye.
Despite persistent hopes for reconciliation, those close to the royal family and the couple have reportedly confirmed that the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Royal Rift is not ending soon.
Where the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Royal Rift is standing right now
The Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Royal Rift has existed since 2020, and despite them living full lives in America, the general public has hoped for reconciliation between the couple and the family. As PEOPLE reports, Prince Harry and King Charles have been on talking terms in the past few months, and there has been development in their relationship, but they haven’t met since September 2025. Even as the King is in the United States of America for a state visit, there isn’t much chance of Prince Harry asking to meet his father, given the difficult schedule.

While Prince Harry’s relationship with his father might have improved over the last few months, sources claim that the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Royal Rift is far from over because of Prince William. According to PEOPLE, The Windsor Legacy’s author, Robert Jobson, said,
“William is over all the drama,”
He added,
“He doesn’t need it, and he doesn’t want it. He’s too busy and focused on his own family,”
This indicates that Prince William isn’t even looking for the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Royal Rift to be over, which makes it even harder for Harry and Meghan to consider it in the long run. As PEOPLE reports, Ailsa Anderson, who was the press secretary of Queen Elizabeth, said that Prince William isn’t a fan of Prince Harry and Meghan’s public life and how they portray it. She said that the couple’s way of living is
“a nonnegotiable”
to Prince William and,
“He wouldn’t countenance any acceptance of it.”
Sources close to the couple and in their support claim that Harry and Meghan have built a life for themselves where they have their businesses, earn their own money, and also take part in philanthropic activities. This allows Prince Harry to do what he believes he was meant to do while honoring how his mother served the public in her time and how she would want him to live his life. Thus, they do charity work and hospital visits like other royals, but not officially as royals. This duality has added to the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Royal Rift, and Prince William isn’t accepting of their lifestyle.

Harry, however, has publicly rejected characterizations that diminish his royal identity. During appearances in Ukraine, he asserted his commitment to his royalty, stating:
“I will always be part of the royal family. I am here working, doing the things I was born to do.”
This declaration contradicts his decision to separate himself from official royal duties. Thus, Prince Harry is still respectful to his heritage but would perhaps like to carry on the legacy in a different way. According to PEOPLE, a friend of the couple said Meghan has been extremely supportive of her husband and whatever steps he chooses to take with his family. A different source has reportedly spoken about the couple, saying,
“It remains very emotional. Harry and Meghan are both realistic. They’re not approaching it with the expectation of a quick resolution. It’s about taking small, manageable steps and seeing where things land. This remains very important to Harry, with Meghan supportive.”
Thus, while Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal rift might end in the long run, it is going to take time and effort from both sides.
