9-1-1 Season 9 Episode 17 titled ‘I Got You Babe’ aired on ABC on April 30. The network’s firefighter procedural returned after a hiatus and picked up right from the previous episode’s cliffhanger, where the 118 rescued some squatters from an abandoned building. While Eddie and Hen were concerned about the migrants, the detective assigned to the case, Detective Hooks, did not share their urgency and was likely involved in the vile human trafficking ring.
After Athena took matters into her own hands in 9-1-1 Season 9 Episode 17, ICE agents stormed the hospital to capture the migrants and put them in a holding facility. However, Athena connected the whole case to a notorious human trafficker, Nikolay Castor, and planned on busting his plans.
Elsewhere, Buck and the 118 were called by a daycare when one of their wild kids, Theo, climbed onto a power plant while chasing a red balloon.
Here is the complete 9-1-1 Season 9 Episode 17 recap.
9-1-1 Season 9 Episode 17 introduces Buck’s ‘son’
While Theo was a wild kid like Buck, the firefighter managed to bond with him in 9-1-1 Season 9 Episode 17. After Buck earned Theo’s trust as Mr. Poop, he managed to talk him out of it and pluck him safely from the power plant. While Theo was out of danger, he was still not ready to listen to the daycare employees and wanted to stay with Mr. Poop instead. Buck and the team bring Theo to the firehouse and call his parents to pick him up, who are none other than Buck’s friends, Connor and Kameron. Turns out, Connor and Kameron are the friends Buck helped get pregnant in 9-1-1 Season 4 by donating his sperm, which practically makes Theo his son.
Once the squad discovered that Theo is Buck’s son in 9-1-1 Season 9 Episode 17, they couldn’t help but see the similarities between them. While Buck had initially wanted no contact with the child to avoid attachment, he eventually invited the family for lunch. As Connor and Kameron listened to Buck’s wild childhood stories, they were convinced that they were not bad parents but the child took after his biological father. Buck couldn’t even negate the statement as Theo was at it again. He had destroyed Buck’s bachelor pad, broken vases, spilled chocolate milk and had even almost set the house on fire. While Buck felt bad about the whole situation and went into a baking spiral, Chimney pulled him out of it by reminding him that he has a big and kind heart.
Theo’s parents meet with a tragedy in 9-1-1 Season 9 Episode 17
Things take a turn in 9-1-1 Season 9 Episode 17 when a frantic couple calls for help, claiming that a boat is charging towards them on the road. Buck is shocked to discover that the couple is none other than his friends, Connor and Kameron, and that Theo is also in the backseat. As the car and the boat collided, Chimney and the squad managed to rescue Theo, who was thankfully unharmed. However, the couple was in bad shape and was pronounced dead in the hospital.
Theo was put into emergency foster care and Buck felt bad for the child and asked if he could visit him sometime. The innocent child replies, only if his father allows, clearly not knowing the gravity of his tragic situation.
9-1-1 Season 9 Episode 17 concluded on a jaw-dropping cliffhanger
Once Athena and Detective Hooks were on the same page about Nikolay Castor in 9-1-1 Season 9 Episode 17, the latter invited the LAPD officer to tag along in a huge raid. Hooks claimed he had solid intel that Castor was involved in a raid that night and he wants Athena to accompany him to clear all her lingering doubts about him. However, the situation was a mess as Detective Hooks was highly unprofessional and was intentionally trying to botch the mission.
Things got messy when Hooks shot at an innocent unarmed man, claiming that he mistook his cell phone for a gun. Before Athena could confront him about it, he shot at her, sending her to the ground, and the episode concluded with Athena’s uncertain fate, just in time for the upcoming season finale.
