Ever since we learned that Days of our Lives’ Jeremy Horton would be written off the canvas this spring, we wondered why he was even brought back. Now that Jeremy’s departure seems to have arrived, we wonder that more than ever.
And just like that…Jeremy leaves

After misreading Stephanie’s (Abigail Klein) cues, Jeremy (Michael Roark) leaned in for a kiss on the April 29th episode. Stephanie quickly stopped him and reminded Jeremy that she was married and she loved her husband. Jeremy apologized just as it hit Stephanie that Jeremy was the mutual friend who had told Joy Wesley (AlexAnn Hopkins) that Alex (Robert Scott Wilson) now wanted to have children.
Not wanting to be the same person he once was, Jeremy didn’t lie and confessed to his indiscretion. He had some excuse about how Alex had the right to know, and while that was true, we all know that was not his deciding motive. Stephanie knew this, so she was honest with Jeremy.
Stephanie had to tell him that no matter what, she would never be with him again after what he did to her all those years ago. She didn’t mind being his friend before she learned of his deception, but she was never going to be his romantic partner. Feeling rejected and dejected, Jeremy went home and told Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) he was leaving town again because he couldn’t find true happiness in Salem.
What was it all for, Days of our Lives?

So, we again ask, what was the point in bringing Jeremy back to begin with? He never had a real love interest; half the town was gunning for him since day one with proverbial pitchforks. He spent a few weeks as a hero, only to leave town in shame after doing something to hurt Stephanie.
Is that a way to treat a legacy character, the great-grandson of Tom and Alice Horton? He was nothing but an outcast during this entire run, with everyone giving him the side eye no matter what he did. While Julie stood by him most of the time, even she doubted her cousin when Stephanie was first kidnapped.
The entire return seems pointless from start to finish, especially when it ended with such a lackluster exit. If Jeremy ever does appear in Salem again one day, let’s just hope he is treated better than this.
