Political commentator Matt Walsh has blasted people targeting Erika Kirk for crying while she was escorted out of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner following the shooting. On Saturday, 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen opened fire near the main security checkpoint of the event hall at the Washington Hilton, where WHCD was taking place, attended by prominent personalities, including President Trump and Vice President JD Vance. TPUSA chairperson Erika Kirk was also in attendance.
After shots rang outside the hall, security personnel evacuated the VIPs. A video later surfaced showed Erika Kirk in tears while being escorted out of the venue. Erika Kirk, who lost her husband in a shooting last year, was heard saying, “I just want to go home.” The TPUSA CEO’s public appearances have remained under public scrutiny since Charlie Kirk’s assassination. Some on the internet also critiqued her tears following the WHCD shooting.
Daily Wire host Matt Walsh defended Charlie Kirk’s widow and slammed people criticizing her. In his Monday X post, Walsh wrote:
“The viciousness towards Erika is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Just absolute psychopathic cruelty being casually exhibited by huge numbers of people on both sides of the aisle. Even if you don’t like Erika for some dumb reason, this treatment is still deranged and cartoonishly evil.”
Matt Walsh suggested that critics should remain silent if they do not like Erika rather than attack a woman who lost her husband.
“There are women in public life who I despise but if their husbands were shot and they were left raising young children alone, I wouldn’t mock and bully them. I wouldn’t pretend that I suddenly like them either. I’d probably just keep my mouth shut. That is also an option. If you don’t like Erika, you could always just focus on something else, rather than putting your wickedness on display for the world to see,” he added.
The media personality further shared a post showing the types of reactions from Erika’s critics to her every public move.
Matt Walsh recently ripped conspiracy theories surrounding Erika Kirk
Ever since Erika Kirk took over as TPUSA chairperson, she has remained under the public lens, and many have critiqued her appearances at public events. Podcaster Candace Owens has remained a vocal critic of Charlie Kirk’s widow. In February this year, Owens released the first episode of her investigative series Bride of Charlie, in which she raised questions about Erika’s past.
Following the release of the first episode of Owens’ series, Matt Walsh fired back at the podcaster and blasted conspiracy theories against Erika Kirk in the February 26 episode of his show. Referring to Owens and other critics of Erika, Matt Walsh commented:
“The innuendos about Erika may be compelling fodder for YouTube videos, they would not be compelling to a grand jury or a prosecutor or a judge… These attacks on Erika, by Candace, and by everyone else engaged in this campaign are wrong. Deeply, desperately wrong. Wrong morally and factually… Defaming anybody with untrue accusations is is very bad. But defaming a widow, the grieving wife of a man that we all say we loved and admired is unspeakably horrifically bad.”
Recently, Erika Kirk missed a TPUSA event at the University of Georgia following a security threat.
