Outlander Season 8 Episode 8 titled ‘In the Forest’ aired on Starz on April 24. The latest episode of the final season of the network’s historical-fantasy series was filled with shocking twists & turns and a much-anticipated reunion.
The episode began with Jamie finally realizing that Frank’s book is dedicated to his ‘Deadeye’, i.e., Brianna, after Roger casually mentions her nickname to him. Jamie and Claire reflect on Frank’s love for Brianna, who anticipated that his daughter would time-travel to the past to find her biological father. Jamie’s heart swells with pride as Brianna displays her riding and rifle-making skills.
With battle fast approaching, Jamie prepares his men for war in Outlander Season 8 Episode 8. In the forest, Mr. Whitaker and his men offer to fight on his side.

William arrives at Fraser’s Ridge in Outlander Season 8 Episode 8
Outlander Season 8 Episode 8 began with an unexpected arrival at Fraser’s Ridge, none other than William. While Amaranthus is worried sick about William in Savannah, he arrives at the Ridge to talk to his half-sister. Claire and the Frasers give him a warm welcome but he is naturally distant from Jamie. The brother and sister have a hearty chat where William spills his heart about Ben and Amaranthus’ betrayal. After dinner, Jamie invites William to go fishing with him to catch tomorrow’s supper but he declines. However, Roger and Brianna push him to accept the offer and the father-son duo sets out for their fishing trip in the morning.
It looks like Jamie and William were finally healing their relationship in Outlander Season 8 Episode 8 as the latter described his childhood fishing trips. However, this moment takes a turn when Jamie discovers that William had a falling out with Lord John after he caught him with another man. William accuses Jamie and John of having an amorous relationship at Ardsmuir before abruptly leaving their fishing trip.
William and Jamie reunite in Outlander Season 8 Episode 8
As William prepares to leave the Ridge, calling his arrival a mistake, Claire tries to reason with him. Without revealing the details of Frank’s prophecy, she warns William that this might be the last time he sees his father alive, as he might soon be called into battle. Claire’s words work like a charm on William and he is reminded of his early years in Helwater, when Jamie taught him riding. While Jamie is out training his men, William arrives and asks him to go hunting tomorrow. While Jamie is initially taken aback, he accepts the offer.
The final moments of Outlander Season 8 Episode 8 saw William and Jamie successfully hunt an elk. As Jamie preps the animal, Willaim apologizes for his behaviour at the river. He begins reflecting on their early days and accuses him of leaving him in Helwater. Jamie finally reveals that he loved him but he was a Jacobite traitor and had nothing to offer him. The episode offered a cathartic moment to William as he finally crashes into his father, hugging him and weeping uncontrollably.
Elsewhere, as instructed in Percy’s letter, Lord John arrives at his office to meet with Captain Richardson. However, the “black-hearted sc*undrel” slams the butt of his rifle into John’s head, ending the episode on a jaw-dropping cliffhanger.
Outlander Season 8 Episode 8 introduced a new time traveler
Another subplot in Outlander Season 8 Episode 8 saw Fanny fearing that she would not be able to reunite with her sister Jane after death, as she is likely in hell for committing murder and su*c*de. Rachel finds a distressed Fanny, who reveals that some boys told her that Jane is in hell. Rachel consoles Fanny and asks her to take up her doubts with Reverend Roger. Fanny skips Roger’s induction ceremony at the church, but he finds her later and tries to ease her mind. Roger advises Fanny to build her own relationship with God and believe that she will be reunited with her sister.
The final moments of Outlander Season 8 Episode 8 saw Fanny visiting Jane’s ceremonial stones and asking her for a sign. She comes across a green stone in the lake and begins to pick it up, when the rock cuts/ burns her hand and she immediately drops it. The rock splits into two and Fanny hears the iconic buzzing sound, suggesting she is likely a time traveler.
