Amazon Prime Video has canceled Gen V after two seasons, closing the doors on Godolkin University and the young supes who trained there. The news arrived alongside confirmation that several of the show’s central characters will carry forward into The Boys season 5 and other projects within the Vought Cinematic Universe.
Executive producers Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg addressed the cancellation directly, saying they remain committed to telling the characters’ stories through The Boys and whatever VCU projects follow. Their statement made clear that the ending of Gen V as a standalone series does not mean the ending of its cast within the broader universe.
What the ratings looked like heading into the decision
Gen V first premiered in 2023 and returned for its second season between September and October 2025. When season 2 launched with its first three episodes, it pulled in 424 million minutes viewed in its opening week, landing at No. 8 on the Nielsen streaming top 10 originals chart. That figure represented the show’s largest single-week total in its run, with two thirds of the audience coming from adults 18 to 49.
The momentum did not hold. After that opening week, the show failed to re-enter the Nielsen top 10 for the remainder of the season, with one exception. That pattern likely factored into Amazon’s decision not to move forward.
Kripke had been candid about the stakes heading into season 2. He told Entertainment Weekly around the October 2025 finale that he had a concept for a third season he found genuinely compelling, describing it as surprising, emotionally grounded, and unlike what audiences might expect. He acknowledged at the same time that the renewal would come down to whether the numbers justified it.
Where the characters go from here
Jaz Sinclair and London Thor, who played Marie Moreau and Jordan Li respectively, have already appeared in early promotional material for The Boys season 5, confirming that at least some of the Gen V cast will factor into the flagship show’s final run. Episode 5 of The Boys season 5 arrives on Prime Video on April 29, with the finale scheduled for May 20.
Gen V was set at Godolkin University School of Crimefighting, where young supes trained for potential spots in The Seven. The series starred Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, Sean Patrick Thomas, and Hamish Linklater. It was developed by Craig Rosenberg alongside Kripke and Goldberg, and produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios.
The VCU’s next chapter takes shape
With The Boys wrapping up and Gen V now off the table, the Vought Cinematic Universe’s clearest path forward runs through Vought Rising a prequel series set in 1950s New York slated to premiere in 2027. Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash return as Soldier Boy and Stormfront, two of the earliest supes in the VCU’s history, at a moment Kripke has described as the dawn of the superhero age. He characterized the show’s tone as something along the lines of a grimier version of L.A. Confidential with superheroes.
Paul Grellong serves as showrunner. The cast also includes Mason Dye as Bombsight, Will Hochman as Torpedo, and Elizabeth Posey as Private Angel. An early preview of Vought Rising is expected to appear within The Boys season 5 before the prequel’s full debut.
A separate spinoff, The Boys: Mexico, remains in active development, though no premiere date has been set.
