Why does Aruna from Running Point Season 2 look familiar? Here’s where we have seen the actress before

Kate Hudson’s former party girl-turned-President of the Los Angeles Waves, Isla Gordon, is officially back in Running Point Season 2, the second installment of Mindy Kaling’s sports-comedy series that debuted on Netflix in February 2025.

Running Point follows Isla Gordon, a former party girl who is unexpectedly left in charge of her family’s pro basketball team when her alcoholic brother Cam is sent to rehab. The freshman season of the series saw Isla surviving against all odds and taking her underdog team to the playoffs, with the help of her best friend Ali and the LA Waves chief of staff. The Season 1 finale saw Cam’s early return from rehab, setting the stage for a sibling rivalry and intense battle in the latest season.

Running Point Season 2 marks the return of Hudson as Isla, along with the main stars Justin Theroux, Brenda Song, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur and Chet Hanks. However, in addition to the returning stars, a new character is making waves online. Fans are particularly intrigued by Aruna, the LA Waves’ incredibly blunt star accountant who can finagle her way around any number of financial hurdles.

The powerhouse artist behind Aruna’s character is American actress Richa Moorjani, best known for playing Kamala in Kaling’s Never Have I Ever.

More on this in our story.

Never Have I Ever star Richa Moorjani plays Aruna in Running Point Season 2

Running Point Season 2 marks another reunion between Richa Moorjani and creator Mindy Kaling. While Moorjani began her acting career as a guest star in popular projects like Sullivan & Son, NCIS: Los Angeles, 9-1-1, The New Yorker: Shorts & Murmurs and The Mindy Project (created by and starring Mindy Kaling), she got her big break through Kaling’s 2020 comedy-drama series.

Richa Moorjani played Kamala Nandiwadal, Devi’s (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) live-in cousin, who is completing her PhD in STEM at Caltech, in Never Have I Ever. The actress appeared in 34 episodes across all four seasons, making her one of the most beloved and relatable characters in the series. Kamala was often seen juggling her career in a demanding profession and the pressures from her family to get married in an arranged setup. Moorjani revealed that she understood the real systemic problems and discrimination women of colour face in STEM while playing Kamala in Never Have I Ever.

The comedy-drama show became a major milestone for the Running Point Season 2 actress and opened the gates to many exciting opportunities. In 2023, Richa Moorjani starred as Deputy Indira Olmstead in Fargo Season 5, Noah Hawley’s Emmy-winning black comedy crime anthology series. Moorjani and Hawley collaborated yet again in the latter’s Alien: Earth, the 2025 sci-fi horror series, which serves as a prequel to the 1979 film Alien. The actress played Zoya Zaveri, the executive officer and later acting captain of the Maginot , who tragically dies during the harrowing events of the series.
