Popular Netflix sports comedy, Running Point Season 2 dropped all of its ten-episodes together this week. Netflix renewed the comedy for the second season last March. At that time, Kate Hudson, who plays Isla Gordon, said this in the announcement video:
“A good basketball team owner knows when to listen to the fans. So we hear you, and so did Netflix. ‘Running Point’ is officially coming back for Season 2!” Thank you so much everyone who watched the show so far! I’m just beyond thrilled because you’re really the reason why we’re able to come back and do another season. So thank you and we’ll see you next season!”
Now, it seems that the second season has premiered an year after the renewal. It opens in the aftermath of Los Angeles Waves loss against Portland. For the uninitated, the first season ended with Justin Theroux’s Isla’s brother, Cam Gordon waiting for her in the former’s office. Now, Running Point Season 2 picks up where the previous one ended. The official logline for this season reads:
“With the franchise finally rebounding after last year’s scandal, Isla is determined to prove she’s not just keeping the seat warm for her brother Cam (Theroux). What she doesn’t know is that Cam is quietly maneuvering behind the scenes to reclaim his post, turning every misstep into ammunition. As she tries to balance the pressure of running a franchise with devoting time to her personal life, every decision on and off the court counts. To survive the family power plays and the scrutiny of the board, she’ll have to rip up last season’s game plan and come up with a whole new playbook if she wants to close out the season on top.”
Running Point Season 2 ending explained:
As mentioned earlier, the Running Point Season 2 opens with the cliffhanger ending of the first season. Initially Cam insists that Isla is better suited for the role of Los Angeles Waves’ president. However, we learn that Cam is waiting for Isla to slip up and paint her mistakes as failure, to convince the board that he is better suited to be the president.
Furthermore, Cam’s stint at the rehab did not work, and he has relapsed. His storyline in the eighth episode culminates in the eighth episode, as Cam with the help of Al Fleischman, becomes the president of the LA Waves. Jackie Moreno tricks Cam into admitting that the latter was using the former’s bodily fluids to pass the drug tests and records him saying that.
The board is alerted about Cam’s behavior, the deal with Al is recalled, and shares belonging to Cam is redistributed amongst his siblings. After that, Isla is restored as the president, typing up this Running Point Season 2. Isla also has her own problems this season.
Earlier in the season, Ali quits LA Waves as Isla ignores Ali’s demand to for a raise. She defects to Toronto Raptors, as the team’s general manager Magnus offers her a raise in addition to a promotion. But, Isla successfully wins Ali back, as the LA Waves get ready for their championship match against Boston. Meanwhile, the future of Isla’s love life is up in the air as she and Lev break-up for good this time.
The Waves win the championship thanks to Marcus’ momentous three. However, the high of the victory is short-lived as the very next day, as Isla, Ness, Sandy, Jackie, and Ali see the TV the very next day. Cam and Al, announce a partnership through which, the previously defunct team, LA Industry will be resuscitated, ending, Running Point Season 2 on a cliffhanger.
Will there be a Running Point Season 3?
As of now, Netflix has not renewed Running Point for season 3. However, the season 2 finale’s closing moments are intentionally setting up the third season. Showrunner David Stassen revealed that Netflix has already ordered a writers’ room for a potential season 3 in The Hollywood Reporter interview:
“Netflix hasn’t officially picked up season three yet, but everyone is optimistic. Season one did very well, and Netflix has already shown a lot of faith by ordering the writers room for a potential season three. So everyone is feeling good.”
However, season 3 renewal depends on the views that the second season got on the streaming platform.
All ten episodes of Running Point Season 2 are currrently available on Netflix.
