How could Sharon and Noah have been so naive about Matt Clark?

There’s just something smug about Matt Clark on The Young and the Restless! He is always acting like he’s smarter than everyone around him! But, now that we think about it, well, maybe he is?

The Young and the Restless, smarter than Wile E. Coyote!

Matt’s used a lot of aliases over the years (Carter Jones, Mitch Bacall), but he could probably take on another one — Wile E. Coyote, the coyote, who was foiled by the Road Runner every Saturday morning when network TV ran cartoons!

Like Wile, Matt got foiled again and again, and like Wile, Matt keeps coming back. Lately, Matt seems to be the one doing the foiling! With help from Det. Annie Stewart (Catherine Kresge), Matt managed to kidnap Sienna. Once captured by the Newmans, Matt was able to free himself from his bonds and attack Nick from the backseat of the car that Nick was driving!

That resulted in Nick needing surgery on his leg and his subsequent addiction to pills. Matt took advantage of Nick’s weakened state and knocked him out, locked him in a hotel storage closet, and taunted him by telling him he’d get him hooked on pills and then hurt his family. Then, Adam became Matt’s prisoner, too.

Matt’s victims somehow manage to escape his clutches, but they just turn right around and set themselves up to be his victims again. Noah and Sienna (Tamara Braun) left the security of the ranch to go to Chancellor Park, where they were vulnerable to him.

Matt walked on the charges once he was arrested due to a technicality. What did Nick do? He went off to Las Vegas to find Matt with only Adam for help. No bodyguards. No hired muscle. No weapons.

Matt has won because the Newmans made it easy

Matt somehow has some money to stay on the run, and he’s somehow two steps ahead of everyone. Why did Nick not want to call Sharon right away and talk to her, you know, live — like in the olden days — to let her know that he was okay?

Couldn’t Adam have called Sally (Courtney Hope) and used Newman Media or Spectra Charles Communications, or whatever the company is called these days, and used technology to warn Sharon and Noah?

Nope. Matt’s like Wile E. Coyote, who keeps coming back, time and time again. But it’s worth noting that the Road Runner always wins. It speeds away, escaping the ACME trap that Wile E. Coyote has spent a great deal of money on, we imagine.

We get the feeling that the Newmans will emerge victorious, but the family would have won against Matt a long time ago had it simply taken advantage of having the upper hand with Matt when it did. But they didn’t. They let Matt get away time and time again, and they refused to use their full resources to defend themselves against him.

How will it all play out? We have the feeling that a showdown is coming soon! Stay tuned!
