The British actor and comedian-turned-podcaster, Russell Brand, who has starred in movies like Nicholas Stoller’s Get Him to the Greek and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, recently appeared on Sirius XM’s The Megyn Kelly Show.
During the April 22, 2026, episode of the journalist-turned-media personality Megyn Kelly’s show, the 50-year-old Russell Brand opened up and discussed his short marriage to the Grammy-nominated Hot n Cold singer-songwriter Katy Perry, as per Us Weekly.
Russell Brand, who is currently hitched to author Laura Gallacher, tied the knot with the I Kissed A Girl hitmaker Katy Perry in 2010. While their divorce was finally settled in March 2012, Brand filed for it in December 2011. During his conversation with Kelly on the show, Brand began by stating how he was not that great at handling his marriage to Perry. Russell said:
“I didn’t handle that marriage very well.”
Russell Brand went ahead and revealed that he tied the knot with Perry, thinking that their marriage would satisfy his self-esteem. Brand explained by saying:
“When you fall in love with someone, like, isn’t it amazing to be in love? Well, imagine that compounded with everyone else acting like it’s important.”
While he talked about Perry’s innocence and how beautiful she is as a person, Brand added:
“Plus, she’s a really lovely … You know what there is about her? She has an innocence. She’s a very beautiful person. She’s also incredibly driven and worked really, really hard. I saw her working really hard.”
As he opened up about his marriage to Perry in detail, the Arthur actor took full accountability for all the mistakes he committed while he was married to the Firework singer. He said:
“Here’s me taking total responsibility for all the mistakes I made in that marriage. I wanted to grab her like this kind of, ‘There, got it.’ I felt like I was inadequate and not enough on my own, so I saw [her as] this big, glorious thing, even though I knew her as a person, just a normal person. Who’s famous when it comes to shower time, picking your nose, scratching your a**? Everybody breaks down into mundanity and flesh.”
While Brand shared that it was his fault to tie the knot with Perry too early, he stated that she was “really lovely.” He added:
“But she was really, really, really lovely. It was my fault. I pushed to get married early because I felt inadequate and insecure and that I wasn’t enough and that if I was married to her, I’d somehow be a better person and more important.”
Russell Brand says Katy Perry was under an “Unnecessary amount of pressure”
While Russell, as he claimed, that he took all the accountability for all the mistakes he made while he was married to the Teenage Dream singer, he recalled that Perry, due to his expectations, was under an:
“Unnecessary amount of pressure.”
Brand continued:
“She couldn’t fulfill those obligations. She was pursuing her dream, which she successfully did, of becoming the world’s most famous pop star.”
He further added:
“When she was doing that, I was in a crisis of, ‘Hold on a minute, I’m lonely and this isn’t working'”.
Even though he is not in touch with his former wife, Katy Perry, Russell Brand has certainly kept in contact with her parents, Keith and Mary, as reported by AOL.
