Running Point Season 2 has a great How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days reference, Kate Hudson explains

Fans of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days got to have a refreshing reference on Kate Hudson’s Running Point Season 2, and the actress is opening up about how the idea came to fruition. The 2003 film is one of the actress’ most iconic projects of her career, one that has become a cult classic over the yearsm especially because of it’s love story.

Running Point Season 2’s sixth episode is where this crossover happened. To catch up: Isla Gordon, the president of fictional NBA team the Los Angeles Waves, breaks off her engagement to Lev the night before their wedding. She’s honest about it, that her priorities are the team, the game, the season and ofcourse, Lev doesn’t take it well. He calls her out for being selfish, and walks away, which is where comes the line.

In a voiceover, Isla looks at the audience and essentially announces that she’s just demonstrated a much faster version of losing a guy than her most famous film. She says,

“Ladies and gentlemen, that is how you lose a guy in ten minutes.”

Talking to USA Today about the nod, Hudson says,

“I’m usually not a big fan of the references of past things or people trying to do that. But it was so funny, and it was so well-placed, and it made everybody laugh, including myself.”

Mindy Kaling, co-creator of Running Point Season 2 then added,

“I don’t think everything we do needs to be winking at other projects that we’re doing. I am with Kate. It was just that she had just broken up with Lev… in 10 minutes, at the beginning of an episode. I couldn’t resist. If Kate had been like, ‘Hey, that’s corny, man; we got to cut that,’ I would’ve been completely fine with it. I was just happy I got to live through the table read, and I’m frankly surprised that it aired. So I feel very lucky.”
