Hayley continued spreading her poison

Here’s what went down Tuesday, April 21, 2026 on Beyond the Gates when Vernon and Martin relived the night of the hate crime, Nicole played “fixer” with Joey, and Tomás closed in on Lynette.

What happened on Beyond the Gates

On Beyond the Gates, Martin and Vernon talked about Martin’s current campaign and Vernon’s legacy. When Martin was doubtful of his own legacy, Vernon realized it was due to the secret of Martin protecting him during the hate crime perpetrated against them that could still come to light. Vernon felt that Bill, Joey, and the other powerful men in the know could be trusted to stay quiet, but Martin didn’t feel secure that one of them might not come forward with how he’d disfigured “Kenneth” and killed his brother keeping Vernon safe. Martin thought that not everyone would realize he had acted in self-defense.

Martin stopped short of saying he was still having nightmares (uh oh!); he would only admit that keeping himself busy was the only way he could control his thoughts about that night. And he had stopped his therapy with Nicole once Anita had gotten sick (not that it was ethical for Nicole to treat her own son; what is she, Taylor on B&B?).

Vernon urged Martin to confide in Smitty, not only for his mental health but to stop him from falling back into the pattern of keeping things from his husband. (Don’t worry, Vern – Smitty’s the one hiding stuff these days.) Martin saw Bill’s point about the extra scrutiny he’d be subjected to if he ran for the Senate – and he was glad he could talk to Vernon, since his having shared the experience of the hate crime made him the only one who could really understand.

Why you wanna trip on me

Joey was surprised to find Nicole in the back room of Lakeview Casino, wanting to clear the air about Vanessa after their disastrous double date. Nicole didn’t think it was funny when Joey offered to play cards to see who’d win Vanessa (but you gotta admit, that’d have been hilarious). When Nicole wondered how she and Joey could play nice, Joey wanted to start with not being reduced to a criminal stereotype. Nicole had to concede that Joey had negative feelings about plastic surgeons since his mother had died on the table of one – the subject of which had tanked the night out with Carlton and Vanessa.

Nicole took umbrage when Joey made an off-color remark about Martin and his past, going on to say that Vanessa could be hurt because of Joey’s “other areas of interest.” Joey replied that Vanessa was the only person he’d ever been able to let his guard down with, and that he loved her. Nicole wanted to believe him but swore Joey would answer to her if he ended up using Vanessa. (Like how would that work – Nicole throws a coffee cup at Joey like she learned from Dani?) Joey and Nicole connected over Vanessa’s dynamic personality; Nicole was willing to extend a hand as a peacemaking gesture. Joey was glad to not have an adversary in Vanessa’s best friend. (By the way, what information does Joey have about Leslie on that hard drive he waved in her face? Inquiring minds want to know!)

Vanessa met with Dani at Uptown and told her how she had gotten Nicole to back off being so judgmental about Joey. Dani was willing not to throw shade on Joey anymore and acknowledged that Vanessa could protect herself; Vanessa continued to insist that she didn’t need protection from Joey. (Yeah, until you find out Joey offed your hubby, Van-Van.) After making a joke about Joey and Vanessa going out shopping together (the visual!), Dani got gossipy about how Bill had called her “baby” while on the phone.

Unable to deny that Dani and Bill still had chemistry for days, Vanessa was shocked to learn that Bill had told Vernon he’d made a mistake in divorcing Dani. Vanessa was sure that Dani was tempted to throw that fact in Hayley’s face, but Dani said she merely felt vindicated – other than that, she was happy to have a man who loved her back in Andre. (Good on you, Dani; now stay on course. Bill looks fine in a suit but you don’t need to be steppin’ back in that mess!)

Nicole got together with Dani at her house, amazed that Joey had seemed sincere about loving Vanessa. Satisfied that her sister had put Joey on notice (against the backdrop of all her coffee cups), Dani changed the topic to how Bill and Naomi were working together defending Madison in her malpractice lawsuit. Nicole seemed surprised, given Naomi was an upstanding lawyer while Bill was a shark, but Dani remembered how Naomi and Bill used to bond when they’d staged mock trials and was gratified to see they were reestablishing their relationship after it had been damaged by Bill’s marriage to Hayley. She was also pleased to see Bill working on Chelsea’s behalf by helping Madison. (How come almost everything with Madison happens off-screen? The Thanksgiving with Chelsea and her mom, the whole conflict about moving to Copenhagen just being Madison/Chelsea convos, now this suit? Just sayin’…)

Vanessa joined Joey at the casino, relieved that her best friend and “steady fella” had come to an understanding. When Joey grimaced at the term, Vanessa admitted she didn’t know what to call him, and “boyfriend” seemed insufficient. “How about partner?” Joey asked. Vanessa was thrilled. (Should Joey be, though? His wannabe mob boss GF will just use that to lobby for becoming a partner in all his shady businesses…again!)

I’m your baby tonight

In Bill’s office, Caroline marveled over how Tomás wanted to take all his co-workers out on lunches to make up for having acted high-and-mighty with them. Bill added that Tomás couldn’t work on a particular case because he had him on a special assignment. Meanwhile, at the atrium, Hayley just missed being caught poisoning Bill’s coffee by Tomás, who wanted to start over with her. Hayley didn’t buy it, noting that Tomás had nearly left Bill’s firm for a less prestigious one. But when Tomás held that he wanted to be friends again, Hayley laid it on thick about having let Lynette get in her head, and she apologized for accusing Tomás of sexually harassing Lynette.

Figuring that the coffees Hayley had bought for her and Bill had probably gotten cold while they were talking, Tomás offered to get fresh ones, but Hayley made a bunch of excuses about Bill’s fussiness over his joe and took off. (Yeah, how could you explain that to a barista: “I’d like an ultra grande with a double espresso shot and a teaspoon of cyanide…”)

When Hayley returned to the firm, Bill wondered what had taken so long; he figured she’d been saying goodbye to Lynette. Hayley got agitated and showed Bill the blunt text she’d gotten about Lynette leaving town; Bill thought it strange that Lynette had gone to the trouble of shopping for penthouses but split the DMV with no notice. Accusing Bill of cross-examining her, Hayley popped off that Bill had “fixed [his] mouth” to call Dani “baby,” fuming about how humiliated it had made her feel. Bill apologized and maintained that the term had just been old habit – he tried to get back to talking about Lynette, but Hayley spat that Lynette was the past while Dani remained on Bill’s mind, then stormed out. (So “Val” always throwing a fit about Dani is just part of the ruse because she’s afraid Bill will take Dani back before Hayley can get her hands on Bill’s bajillions? It always seems more like actual insecurity than any game running…)

Who got the camera?

Feeding Caroline her “appreciation lunch,” Tomás spoke about possibly restoring his friendship with Hayley, which had only been damaged once Lynette had been taken on as a client. Caroline scoffed that Lynette had been “nothing but drama,” and Tomás hid his surprise when Caroline mentioned that Lynette had suddenly left town. While Caroline went on a Mother Nature break, Tomás put in a call and asked to meet someone regarding the new intel he’d gotten on Lynette.

At the atrium, Tomás rendezvoused with Keegan, the investigator Bill had tasked last fall with digging up dirt on Andre. (How long does it take to find out why a guy doesn’t like to have his picture taken? Seems like Keegs took Bill’s money and then put his feet up for months! How is he not on the unemployment line?) Off the news that Lynette had disappeared, Keegan relayed his discovery that Lynette had checked out of her hotel remotely, there was no credit/debit card trail, and her cell phone was untrackable. The only lead Keegan had was Lynette having applied to buy the penthouse through Vanessa’s real estate firm, though Lynette hadn’t submitted for a credit check. Tomás wanted Vanessa kept out of it (why? Van-Van could help when she’s not getting shagged on poker tables) but decided he’d get his answers when he found Lynette. (Yeah, fat chance, Tom-Tom.)

Hayley got a call from Randy, assuring her that Lynette was truly out of the picture; Hayley made a joke about her cousin taking care of Lynette’s “personal effects.” (Damn dis bish cold! Didn’t they grow up together in Philly? If she’s that heartless about a BFF, imagine how she’ll be with Bill!) Across town, Bill was on his way out to patch things up with Hayley but told Caroline that he wanted all of his financials monitored…and to be notified immediately if there were unusual expenditures of any kind. (‘Bout time Bill is smartening up! Wonder if that poison is increasing his brain power…)

Tune in tomorrow when Ted and Shanice keep trying to define their relationship, Bill finds some dirt on Hayley, and Grayson goes under the knife.
