The Devil Wears Prada 2 is considered to be highly anticipated for its release in theaters on May 1, 2026. Before the movie’s release, Entertainment Weekly published an article regarding something that many fans were silently wondering about for months. Sydney Sweeney was filmed with Emily Blunt in August 2025, and she would not be appearing in The Devil Wears Prada 2. Sydney filmed her scene, but it was later cut from the final version.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Sweeney filmed a brief clip that would have found itself early on in The Devil Wears Prada 2. This brief clip appeared during the segment in which Andy, Miranda, and Nigel travel to Dior Headquarters to seek assistance from Emily Charlton in an effort to save Runway magazine.
In the filmed version of the movie, Sweeney played herself in an approximately three-minute cameo where Emily was seen working with a client. This was an exciting idea at the conceptual stage of development; having a real-life celebrity appear in the film should help to make the rest of the world of the movie connect more with real-life fashion.
When all of the creative team went back and looked at that scene in context to see how it would fit within the entire movie, unfortunately, it didn’t fit the way it needed to for them.
A source told EW it was a “creative decision” to remove it entirely, and that the team was genuinely grateful for Sweeney’s time and felt the call to cut it was a difficult one. Representatives for both Disney and Sweeney did not respond to EW when asked for comment.
Why was Sydney Sweeney on the set of The Devil Wears Prada 2 and what was the confusion about?
In August 2025, images emerged of Sweeney throughout the sets of New York City vicinity where The Devil Wears Prada 2 has been filming, as Sweeney was seen leaving what looks like a production trailer beside Emily Blunt in an oversized blue hoodie and looking down.
Before this sighting, no details were officially available regarding Sweeney’s participation in the film, resulting in speculation on social media regarding the extent of Sweeney’s involvement. Some thought that Sweeney would be a runway model for the film, while others believed that Sweeney would have more of a specific purpose than a simple cameo.
The mystery continued right up until The Devil Wears Prada 2 started having early screenings. Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna was asked about it during an interview with ScreenRant on April 19 and confirmed simply that Sweeney is not in the movie. She continued to say that since there were so many pictures of people standing around the set during production, it became something of a recurring joke as to who existed and did not exist in the movie.
However, Entertainment Weekly has taken things one step further and provided evidence that she was present and her scene was filmed, but her omission from the final edit is strictly creative and structural.
As for Sydney Sweeney herself, she recently returned to the role that made her famous, appearing in the first two episodes of Euphoria‘s season 3, which began airing on HBO in April 2026. And as for The Devil Wears Prada 2, fans have to wait for a few more days to find out how the anticipated second part of the cult classic movie turns out.
